YOUTH ORGS, STAKEHOLDERS JOIN FORCES FOR KUMALARANG BEACH CLEAN-UP

A much-needed clean-up of Kumalarang Beach was, organized, January 31, by Kaya Natin Youth Basilan (KNYB), spearheaded by its officers and members under the leadership of KNYB president Qasim Tapsi. The initiative formed part of the organization’s continuing efforts to protect the environment and improve sanitation in coastal areas.
The activity drew strong support from volunteers across different sectors, including Tabuk Youth Organization (TaYO), Youth Advocates for Compassion and Peace (YACAP), Samahan ng Manggagawang Panlipunan (SAMPson), Political Science Club (BASC), the SK Chairperson and Barangay Local Government Unit of Kumalarang, as well as uniformed personnel from the 101st Infantry Brigade, Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), 4th Special Forces Battalion, and 19th Special Forces Battalion. The City Government of Isabela through the City General Services Office lent their support by providing transportation to the group.
Beyond the clean-up activity, KNYB introduced a sustainable intervention by organizing a weekly garbage collection route, addressing a long-standing gap in local waste management. This initiative was made possible through close coordination between KNYB and its partner organizations.
The group also installed trash bins and informative signages throughout the community to encourage proper waste disposal and foster environmental discipline among residents. These efforts are expected to help prevent indiscriminate dumping and promote cleanliness in Barangay Kumalarang. The event concluded with a modest fellowship gathering, celebrating the shared accomplishment and collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
In total, a total of 152 sacks of waste were collected during the activity. The event coincided with the closing of the observance of January as Zero Waste Month with the theme β€œR.A. 9003 at 25: Honoring our Past, Renewing Commitments, Innovating for a Cleaner Tomorrow.” This year’s theme marks the 25th anniversary of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, focusing on strengthening waste reduction, improving sustainability, and embracing innovation.
