YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OFFICE LEADS JOINT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND PRIDE MONTH ACTIVITY

In a display of advocacy for mental health and inclusivity, the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, through the Local Youth Development Office, held a joint observance of Mental Health Awareness Month and Pride Month, June 26, at the Youth Development Center. The event carried the theme “Embracing Identity, Empowering Minds.”
Bringing together youth leaders, mental health advocates, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, the gathering offered a safe and supportive space for learning, reflection, and self-expression. The program opened with a warm welcome from Local Youth Development Officer Levinia Jarejolne, setting the tone for a meaningful morning. This was followed by messages of encouragement and solidarity from SK Federation President Naila Belleng and Assistant Human Resource Management Officer Mojaheden Cosain.
A key highlight of the event was the mental health awareness talk delivered by Kristy Anne Mari Montebon, RMN. She emphasized the critical importance of mental wellness, particularly for young people and those from marginalized communities who often face heightened vulnerability due to stigma and lack of support.
In an empowering moment, Al-shemar Rajab, speaking on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community, delivered a heartfelt message that underscored the need for acceptance, empathy, and equal rights. His words resonated with the participants, many of whom shared their own stories throughout the event.
The program culminated in a symbolic wall hand-painting activity, where attendees imprinted their handprints as a vibrant expression of unity, diversity, and shared commitment to a mentally healthy and inclusive society.
The City Government of Isabela continues to champion safe spaces and platforms that promote understanding, affirm identities, and uplift the mental well-being of all its people, especially its youth.
