YOUNG PENS SET SAIL: ISABELA CITY CELEBRATES 24TH ANNIVERSARY WITH INSPIRING ‘MY BOAT STORY’ ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

In celebration of the 24th Cityhood Anniversary, the City Government of Isabela de Basilan, under the creative and dynamic leadership of City Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman, successfully held the My Boat Story: The Essay Writing Contest workshop. This enriching activity, part of the Sakayan Festival 2025 anchored on the theme “RelationSHIPS: 24 Years of the City’s Journey Anchored in Inspiring Stewardship Towards Sailing Resilience,” took place on April 28, at the Department of Information Communications Technology.
To ensure preparedness and produce quality outputs among young Isabeleño storytellers, a Writing Course was first conducted for the participants. The workshop featured a comprehensive and inspiring lecture on Essay Writing by Mr. Rheinjohn Sampang, Master Teacher I of Begang National High School and a seasoned school paper adviser. Mr. Sampang shared valuable techniques and insights, equipping the 15 representatives from various secondary schools across the city with the tools to become effective bearers of realities through the power of pen and letters.
Shermina Sualing, Information Officer II, representing City Information Officer Mendry Ann Lim, warmly welcomed the participants and set the tone for the session with her encouraging message.
The My Boat Story: The Essay Writing Contest exemplifies the city’s continued commitment to nurturing young talents and strengthening Isabela City’s legacy of storytelling and resilience. This event was brought to the community through the collaborative efforts of the City Tourism Office and the City Information Office, in partnership with the Department of Education–Isabela de Basilan Division.
