SAKAYAN-KAALAMAN 3.0: SK VOLUNTEERS INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATIONS OF LEADERS

The Sakayan-Kaalaman Reading Program 3.0 continues to inspire young learners as it held its fourth session at Kaumpurnah Elementary School on September 2. A total of 100 selected pupils from Grades 2 to 6 took part in the activity, which aims to strengthen reading skills and nurture literacy among Isabeleño youth.
The program, an initiative of the City Government of Isabela under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, is carried out in partnership with the City Information Office and the Local Youth Development Office.
This week’s session also highlighted the SK Federation, led by SK President Naila Belleng, who shared insights on leadership with the children. “Everyone can be a leader,” she reminded them. Together with other SK chairpersons from different barangays, the team also prepared interactive games and quizzes with prizes to make the session even more engaging.
Meanwhile, the Youth Space Mentoring Program volunteers continued guiding the participants, assessing their reading progress and providing support that will shape the next phases of the sessions.
Held every Tuesday and Wednesday, the Reading Program includes one hour of lectures from partner offices and two hours dedicated to reading and literacy activities. Across 20 sessions in total, the pupils will receive consistent mentorship to track their reading levels and growth.
Beyond literacy, the program also opens opportunities for the children to learn about leadership, values, and community participation—broadening their knowledge and shaping them to become future leaders of Isabela City. The HAPIsabela Mobile Library further enriches the experience by supplying extra reading materials and teaching aids.
The event was also graced with support from CIO Mendry-Ann Lim, along with SK Chairpersons Muhaimin Noor of Barangay Kumalarang, Nurhina Ahari of Barangay Lampinigan, Abdilla Aldani of Barangay Lukbuton, and Amy Sanson of Barangay Sunrise. (Words by E. Banding / Photos by K. Galano)
