The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, hosted the “Ramadhan Lights Switch-On” on February 28 at the City Hall Lobby. This annual event marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan, symbolizing enlightenment, unity, and spiritual renewal for the Muslim community.
The program began with a solemn prayer led by Argimar Patla from Mahad Al-Mubarakat Al-Islamie, followed by a remarks from Mayor Turabin-Hataman, who emphasized the significance of Ramadhan as a time for reflection, generosity, and strengthening communal ties.
A Ramadhan message was delivered by Dr. Alzad Sattar, an assistant professor at the UP Diliman Institute of Islamic Studies and the Vice President for Internal Affairs of the Basilan Supreme Ulama Council. Dr. Sattar shared insights on the spiritual and societal importance of Ramadhan, encouraging the community to embrace its values of compassion, unity, and self-discipline.
The highlight of the event was the Simultaneous Switching-On of Ramadhan Lights, which illuminated key locations across the city, including Isabela City Hall, Plaza Misericordia, Plaza Rizal, JW Strong Boulevard, Isabela City Park in Fuego-Fuego and Aguada Bridge.
The occasion was graced by Basilan Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman, Basilan District 1 Board Member Ahmed Ibn Djaliv Hataman, Councilors Abner Rodriguez, Yusop Abubakar, Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul, IPMR Mary May Julhari and SK Federation President Naila Belleng, invited Punong Barangays, department heads led by City Administrator Pedrito Eisma, representatives from the security sector, religious sector, civil society organizations, and LGU employees.
