In line with the celebration of World Hijab Day 2026 and the recently established National Hijab Day, De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) held “Conversations Beyond the Veil: A Kapihan Session”, February 4. Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman was invited as a resource person to share her insights and experiences.
The event, organized by the DLSZ Social Action Office in collaboration with Anak Mindanao Foundation Inc. (AMIN), brought together around 50 educators and administrators from the Lasallian community. Participants included educators, student leaders, and partners from La Salle College Antipolo, DLSMHSI, DLSBI-Social Action Unit, DLSZ Christian Living and Social Studies teachers, Parents Association representatives, and Tugon Zobelunteers of BRafeNHS, who gathered not only to speak but also to listen with intention.
Mayor Turabin-Hataman, serving as the session’s keynote speaker and panelist, shared her reflections and experiences advocating for Muslim women and communities. Her participation highlighted the impact of Republic Act No. 12224, which officially designates February 1 as the National Day of Awareness on Hijab and Other Traditional Garments and Attire. She affirmed that Lasallian institutions have always been safe spaces for the Muslim community, where faith is respected, culture is honored, and identity is met with dignity.
In her address, Mayor Turabin-Hataman emphasized the importance of recognizing and respecting cultural and religious expressions, encouraging educators to embody inclusivity not only in their lessons but also through their actions and interactions with students.
This year marks DLSZ’s eighth consecutive participation in World Hijab Day, continuing its commitment to promoting understanding, respect, and inclusivity across the Lasallian community. (Photos credit to DLSZ-Social Action Office)
