As he begins his final term as City Councilor of the 9th Sangguniang Panlungsod and as the new Committee Chair of the Isabela Senior Citizens Affairs, Konsi Yusop ‘Benjo’ Abubakar led the Consultative Meeting with Senior Citizens Board of Directors held at their Lounge Center, Barangay Tabuk, on July 2.
In coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by Nor-aina Asmara, the consultative session was formally opened by the OSCA Head, Remegio Delos Reyes. He unveiled plans of the board of directors focusing on the welfare of fellow senior citizens, including some issues and concerns in terms of receiving government assistance, which includes the following:
1. Regular medical consultation
2. Burial assistance
3. Food and cash assistance for neglected and abandoned senior citizens
4. ‘Saklolo’ assistance for disabled senior citizens and;
5. Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens
Furthermore, Councilor Abubakar expressed his full committment in fulfilling the suggestions of the committee to ensure that they will be included through the process of resolutions, and will be part of participatory budgeting that is in line with the future activities and programs of their sector. Abubakar also reminded the committee to create more proposals and work hand-in-hand intended for the welfare of the Isabeleño senior citizens.
Also present during the meeting were Committee Co-Chairs and Councilors Jeromy ‘Jay’ Casas and Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul-Hataman who also extended their full support to give an immediate act on mandating the necessary proposals. Through their common legislative goal, this will mark as great trademarks for their term as public servants.
