ISABELA CITY HOLDS PRE-AND PERIMENOPAUSAL ORIENTATION, STRENGTHENS GAD-RESPONSIVE GOVERNANCE

In celebration of National Women’s Month, the City Government of Isabela under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and through Isabela City Health Office and Gender and Development Office, conducted a Pre- and Perimenopausal Orientation for LGU Employees on March 31 at Joveth’s Isabela, Sunrise, reinforcing its commitment to women’s health, well-being, and gender-responsive governance.
The orientation gathered LGU women employees to deepen understanding of women’s health concerns, particularly during the pre- and perimenopausal stages—an often overlooked but critical phase in women’s lives.
The activity opened with remarks from Bernardita Hontucan of the Isabela City Health Office, who underscored the importance of raising awareness on women’s health issues and ensuring that government programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of women across all life stages.
Serving as resource speaker was Dr. Sherryl Anne Macrohon-Sew, OB-Gyne and member of the Maternal Neonatal Death Response Committee of Basilan Medical Center. In her session, she provided valuable medical insights on hormonal changes, physical and emotional health, and practical approaches to managing symptoms associated with menopause.
Dr. Macrohon-Sew emphasized the importance of awareness, early intervention, and support systems in ensuring that women continue to thrive in both personal and professional spaces during this stage of life.
In her closing remarks, Mendry-Ann Lim, GAD Focal Person, emphasized the importance of creating safe and intentional spaces where women’s issues can be openly discussed and addressed.
She highlighted that the activity is part of the continuing initiatives of Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman to ensure that women are not only heard but also supported through responsive programs and policies.
Participants expressed appreciation for the learning opportunity, noting that discussions on menopause and women’s health are rarely given attention in governance spaces despite their relevance to workforce productivity and overall well-being.
The orientation forms part of the city’s broader Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives, which continue to champion women’s rights, health, and empowerment across all sectors.
Through initiatives like this, the City Government of Isabela reaffirms its commitment to building a community where women are informed, supported, and empowered at every stage of life—advancing its vision of a happy and dignified life for all. (Words by M.Lim, Photos by A. Puti)
