The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, through the City Information Office headed by City Information Officer Mendry-Ann Lim, convened campus journalists from Basilan National High School for an orientation on NEST (News Engagers for Social Transformation) on May 26 at the SP Session Hall.
NEST, a program launched in 2022, aims to enhance the skills and capacities of young journalists in Isabela City. Through this initiative, the local government provides aspiring campus journalists with communication and media platforms such as IsaTV and radio broadcasting, where they can further develop and showcase their talents and skills.
During the orientation, CIO Lim also discussed possible partnerships between the LGU and schools in strengthening youth participation in media and communication initiatives. “As young as you are, you are already contributing to the development of the city,” she said. She also highlighted various opportunities and programs that campus journalists may take part in to further hone their craft.
The campus journalists in attendance were likewise given cash incentives in recognition of their vital role during the coverage of the ZPRAA 2026. Their write-ups and documentation will also be featured in the soon-to-be-launched ZPRAA magazine.
Also present during the activity were School Paper Adviser Julienne Izabel Garcia, Information Officer II Shermina Sualing, and other personnel from the City Information Office.
