GSP-BASILAN COUNCIL STRENGTHENS YOUTH LEADERSHIP THROUGH CITY-SUPPORTED CAMP..

The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP)–Basilan Council, with strong support from the City Government of Isabela under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, successfully held its Gathering of Girl Leaders: My Leader, My Guide cum Patrol Leaders’ Camp Permit Course on November 22–23, at Camp Nalum in Isabela City. The activity served as a training ground for emerging Girl Scout leaders and a venue to strengthen community values, confidence, and awareness of their roles in local governance and disaster response.
Day One focused on building essential skills for emergency readiness. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) led a lecture on Emergency Preparedness, providing foundational knowledge on disaster awareness, risk prevention, and community safety. This was followed by a Mountain Search and Rescue Practical/Demo, allowing participants to apply their learning through guided hands-on exercises.
To deepen their commitment to volunteerism, the scouts also received an orientation on the SAVERS Team (Service Auxiliary Volunteers for Emergency and Relief Services), officially linking them to the city’s volunteer network. The day concluded with a Free Being Me Session, an empowering workshop on self-esteem, body confidence, and personal growth.
Day Two centered on leadership development, environmental responsibility, and organizational governance. It began with a Clean-up Drive within the campgrounds, reinforcing scouting values of stewardship and teamwork.
A key activity was the Senior Cadet Planning Board (SCPB) Orientation, which introduced the participants to organizational planning, decision-making, and administrative responsibilities within the scouting structure. This was followed by an Action Planning session where newly oriented leaders collaborated to outline future GSP programs and initiatives.
The camp concluded with a Closing Program, marking the end of two days of learning, collaboration, and leadership formation. The Girl Scouts left Camp Nalum with strengthened skills, renewed confidence, and a deeper commitment to service—ready to apply their enhanced leadership capacities in their schools, barangays, and communities.
