FROM SOIL TO MODERN OVAL: ISABELA CITY GRANDSTAND REOPENS WITH FUN RUN, ZUMBA

After months of anticipation and substantial investment, the Isabela City Grandstand officially reopened on May 6, marked by a Fun Run and Zumba session organized by the Department of Education – Schools Division Office (DepEd SDO) of Isabela City, under the leadership of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Jay Montealto.
What was once a crude facility with soil flooring has been transformed into a modern sports complex now boasting an 8-lane rubberized track and field oval. The rehabilitation project, made possible through the initiative of Deputy Speaker and Basilan Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman Mujiv Hataman, is aimed at providing a safe, inclusive, and functional space for sports, fitness, and civic events.
Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman graced the reopening and expressed her deep gratitude to all stakeholders who made the project possible. “This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we prioritize good governance and the welfare of our people. Nothing is impossible when we work together,” Mayor Hataman stated.
The morning’s celebration kicked off with a citywide Fun Run from the East Terminal, followed by an energetic Zumba session at the grandstand grounds. The event drew participation from students, teachers, local officials, national agency representatives, and members of the community—highlighting unity, wellness, and renewed pride in public infrastructure.
The newly reopened Isabela City Grandstand is expected to become a central venue for athletic training, school and city events, and health-focused community activities in the years ahead. (Words by SJ Asakil/Photos by M. Santos, CIO)
