CITY UNITES IN SOLEMN FIESTA EVE PROCESSION FOR STA. ISABELA DE PORTUGAL

With prayers, hymns, and unwavering devotion, hundreds of Catholic faithful took part in the Fiesta Eve Grand Procession on July 7, in honor of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, patroness of Isabela City and titular patroness of the Cathedral Parish. The procession marked the culmination of the nine-day novena leading to the celebration of the 176th Patronal Fiesta, anchored on the theme, “Heritage Preserved, Faith Renewed: Sta. Isabel, Model of Faith and Intercessor of All Isabeleños.”

The religious procession was led by Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Ronel Antonio, together with Rev. Fr. Joselito Delos Reyes, Rev. Msgr. Valeriano Cabalog, Rev. Fr. Franklyn Floyd Constan, and consecrated religious from the different parishes of the Prelature of Isabela de Basilan. Before the procession, devotees witnessed the traditional Mudada de Santa Isabel, the ceremonial changing of the patroness’ vestments, followed by the Salutacion, Veneracion, and the Ninth and Final Novena, before concluding with the solemn Vísperas Mass at the Cathedral.

In solidarity with the Cathedral Parish and the Catholic faithful, the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, continues to celebrate Fiesta Alegria de Isabela, recognizing the patronal feast as a defining expression of the city’s historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage. Through the City Tourism Office, a series of cultural, civic, and community activities has been organized to complement the religious celebration and promote the unique identity of Isabela City.

The annual observance is further strengthened through Republic Act No. 12220, principally authored by then Basilan Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman, which declares July 8 of every year as a Special Working Holiday in Isabela City in celebration of the Feast of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, officially known as Fiesta Alegria de Isabela.

As the city celebrates its beloved patroness for the 176th time, the occasion remains a powerful testament to the enduring faith of the Isabeleños and the living heritage that continues to unite generations in gratitude, devotion, and hope. (Words by M. Guerrero, CIO / Photos by KJ Evardo, IsaTV)
