BFP-ISABELA CITY FIRE STATION JOINS SAKAYAN-KAALAMAN TO TEACH FIRE PREVENTION

The Sakayan-Kaalaman Reading Program 3.0 reached its eighth session at Kaumpurnah Elementary School on September 16, with excited students from Grades 2 to 6 eagerly joining in. Led by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, the program continues to nurture the love for reading among Isabeleño children while addressing literacy challenges in the community.
Happening every Tuesday and Wednesday, each session blends one hour of learning from partner organizations with two hours of guided reading activities. Mentors also take time to assess the students’ reading levels, ensuring that support is personalized. Beyond literacy, the program also opens doors to lessons on health, safety, and life skills that help shape the children’s overall growth.
In collaboration with the City Information Office (CIO) and the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), this week’s session featured the BFP–Isabela City Fire Station. Fire officers shared what to do during a fire, taught the basics of using a fire extinguisher, and even gave the children a closer look at their firefighting uniforms and gear.
Adding to the excitement, the HAPIsabela Mobile Library was also on site, making the experience more engaging and reminding the students that learning can be fun, interactive, and holistic. (Words by E. Banding-Hadjala, CIO/Photos by A. Puti, IsaTV)
