The Sakayan Festival 2025 officially launched on April 25, marking the start of Isabela City’s 24th founding anniversary celebration. The festive and meaningful opening program was held at Isabela City Park in Barangay Tabiawan, highlighting the city’s maritime heritage, multicultural identity, and strong community spirit.
The celebration began with the grand Boat Float Parade, where creatively decorated vessels sailed along the coast to reflect Isabela’s deep-rooted seafaring traditions. The program continued with a dynamic cultural showcase, featuring vibrant dance performances by the Pasangan Cultural Dance Troupe and musical numbers by the HAPIsabela Singers.
In her welcome remarks, Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman emphasized that the Sakayan Festival is more than just a celebration—it is a symbol of Isabela’s journey as a city and a tribute to the diverse cultural communities that call it home. “The sakayan represents not only our seafaring history but also the journey of each individual and group that has made Isabela their home,” she said. The mayor further underscored that the city’s true progress lies not just in infrastructure or indicators, but in the growing sense of belonging and purpose among its people. “Every Isabeleño now knows that they are valued, that they matter, and that they play a role in building our city.”
Board Member Ahmed Ibn Djaliv Hataman also expressed support for the festival, pointing out the enduring community spirit that brings together residents from different walks of life. He highlighted the city’s cultural diversity, describing Isabela as a place shaped by different languages, backgrounds, and histories—yet united by shared aspirations and values.
Each participating group brought their cultural narratives to life through stunning float designs that honored their heritage and connection to the sea. The floats were not only a visual spectacle but also a symbol of unity, diversity, and the shared journey of Isabeleños.
Earning the championship title and a cash prize of P140,000, the Basilan Medical Center (BMC) impressed the judges with a float that beautifully represented Yakan culture, blending intricate patterns with meaningful symbolism. DepEd Isabela City Schools Division Office claimed second place and took home P90,000 for their creative showcase of Cebuano traditions, while the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secured third place, winning P70,000 for their vibrant portrayal of Tagalog heritage.
Consolation prizes of P20,000 each were awarded to commendable entries from the PCCI Isabela de Basilan, Eagles Club, Tyro Gyn Phi, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), all of whom contributed significantly to the success and spirit of the event.
The evening program concluded with the Sakayan Festival Opening Countdown, followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the city skyline. Attendees were also treated to a colorful musical medley and fashion show, combining traditional attire and contemporary design in a creative expression of heritage and modernity.
