Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman led the receipt of the Murillo Bulletin Journal: Basilan Special Issue during a handover ceremony at the Basilan Government Center on January 29, highlighting the Provincial Government of Basilan’s commitment to preserving and promoting the province’s identity.
The special issue features a curated collection of maps and narratives that strengthen and showcase Basilan’s history, culture, and heritage. Mayor Turabin-Hataman was joined by Dr. Felice Noelle Rodriguez and Peter Geldart of the Philippine Map Collectors Society, along with Provincial Administrator Manny Muarip and other provincial department heads.
Regarded as a valuable reference for research, education, and heritage preservation, the special issue reflects the collaborative efforts of local government leaders and cultural advocates in safeguarding Basilan’s historical legacy. The study also underscores Basilan’s significance as a key player in maritime trade history, highlighting its role in regional commerce and cultural exchange.
The group also visited Basilan National High School, where copies of the journal were distributed to faculty. During the visit, they shared insights on Basilan’s history and cultural heritage, aiming to promote historical awareness and a deeper appreciation of the province’s legacy among the youth. Present were SDS Ma. Laarni Villanueva, OIC Principal Arnel Hajan, EPS Dr. Elsa Usman, and other school officials. (Words by SJ Asakil/Photos by M. Santos, CIO)
