The Isabela City Civic and Cultural Center was a whirlwind of color and athletic artistry yesterday, April 8, as the Dancesports Competition officially commenced. As one of the most anticipated events of the ZPRAA 2026, the venue was packed to the rafters with spectators eager to witness the best student-dancers from across the region.
The floor saw an elite display of talent across both the Modern Standard and Latin Disciplines in the Juvenile and Junior Divisions. Delegations from Zamboanga City, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, ZANDIDAA and Isabela City, brought their A-game, showcasing not just choreography, but incredible physical conditioning.
In the Modern Standard category, the gym was filled with the elegance of the Waltz and the sharp, dramatic movements of the Tango. Meanwhile, the Latin events turned up the heat, with athletes executing high-velocity Samba rolls and lightning-fast Jive kicks that kept the judges and the audience on the edge of their seats. Every spin, dip, and extension was a testament to the months of rigorous training these athletes endured to represent their divisions.
Joining the sea of cheering fans was City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, who personally visited the venue to witness the competition firsthand. In a brief moment of encouragement, the Mayor delivered her support to the athletes, highlighting their role as symbols of discipline and regional pride. Her presence underscored the city’s commitment to providing a world-class stage for the young champions to shine.
As the final scores were tallied, Zamboanga del Sur dominated the Juvenile Division while Zamboanga City swept the Junior Division. Here, the message was clear: Dancesports in the Zamboanga Peninsula has reached a new level of excellence, and Isabela City is honored to be the backdrop for such historic performances. (Words by S.
