LGU HOLDS DIALOGUE TO STRENGTHEN IP REPRESENTATION, PROGRAMS

The City Government of Isabela under the administration of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, through its IP Affairs Desk led by IP Affairs Desk Officer Norhaiya Macusang, conducted a consultative meeting with Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) and Indigenous Peoples (IP) leaders, May 12.
The activity was held as part of the city’s continuing commitment to strengthen coordination and partnership with IP communities and their leaders, providing a venue for meaningful dialogue on key issues, programs, and initiatives affecting Indigenous Peoples in the city.
During the meeting, updates on the current status of IPMRs in the barangays were discussed, including terms of office and the possible candidates for the selection process. The city government also presented its ongoing and proposed programs and activities for IP communities, while the City Planning and Development Office facilitated discussions on the Local Development and Investment Plan (LDIP).
Concerns raised by partner agencies were likewise tackled, including infrastructure matters such as the Malamawi Bridge and the relocation of affected families in Diki. Updates were also shared regarding the IP share from SPUG 119 of the National Power Corporation.
IP leaders and representatives actively participated in the discussions, offering insights and recommendations that will help guide the City Government in crafting more responsive and inclusive policies and programs. (Words by SJ Asakil/Photos by M. Santos, CIO)
