In celebration of the 25th Cityhood Anniversary of Isabela City, the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of City Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman, successfully conducted the My Sakayan, My Story: Essay Writing Contest, participated in by eleven (11) schools across Isabela City.
The activity formed part of the Sakayan Festival 2026, anchored on the theme Reflections and Direction @25, and was held on April 27 at the ILC Room of Basilan National High School.
The contest revolved around the thought-provoking prompt: If your boat could tell your story, what journey would it reveal about your life as an Isabeleño—and where is it headed next? Through this, participants were encouraged to reflect on their personal experiences, identity, and aspirations as members of the Isabela community.
Prior to the competition, a Writing Course was conducted to help participants produce quality outputs. The workshop featured a comprehensive and inspiring lecture on essay writing delivered by Information Officer III Marion Guerrero of the City Information Office, who shared valuable techniques and practical tips on effective writing.
Serving as judges for this year’s competition were Atty. April Jade Bonoan-Onlos, a lawyer from Cagayan de Oro; Rogelio M. Ramos Jr., a Q&A trainer, chemist, and educator from Cebu City; and Joseph Cadeliña, a social scientist and instructor from De La Salle University-Manila.
Overall, the activity served not only as a platform for creative expression but also as an avenue for young Isabeleños to amplify their voices and perspectives—demonstrating that the future of Isabela continues to be shaped by its emerging generation.
