The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, formally turned over a 7,002-square meter parcel of land to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on April 7. The donation, aimed at bolstering the city’s efforts in enhancing public safety and welfare, was marked by a ceremonial signing of the Deed of Donation at the Sakayan Conference Room.
The parcel of land, located in the Barangay Calvario, will be utilized for the construction of a new jail facility. The signing event saw the presence of key figures from both the City Government of Isabela and BJMP, including the Regional Director JCSUPT Amado Concepcion Jr., Isabela City Jail Warden JINSP Sofia Sojor and witnessed by Zamboanga City Jail Male Dormitory Jail Warden JSUPT Jonairy Sitchon and JINSP Rene Abenes. Also present were Vice Mayor Ar-Jhemar Ajibon, Councilor Jeromy Casas and IPMR Panglima Jamalul Habibun, City Administrator Pedrito Eisma, City Legal Officer Atty. Rosebell Sanson and City Assessor Vido Yu.
The Deed of Donation formalizes the donation of the land and its subsequent transfer of possession to the BJMP, which will construct and operate a new facility for the improvement of detention services in the region. The BJMP is committed to ensuring the operational efficiency of the facility, which will be instrumental in addressing overcrowding and providing humane treatment to PDLs.
The donation of this land marks a new chapter in the City Government’s ongoing efforts to support the government’s initiatives to enhance the country’s justice and penal systems. It also signifies the City’s commitment to being a partner in the rehabilitation and reintegration of detainees. (Words by SJ Asakil/Photos by M. Santos, CIO)
