As part of the 2026 Nationa Women’s Month Celebration, the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, conducted an Interreligious Dialogue on Women’s Rights According to Scriptures, Women in Leadership, and Social Responsibilities on March 17.
The activity was organized through the City Local Madrasah Development Office, led by Dr. Nujum Datu Indal, in partnership with the City Local Council of Women, headed by president Miriam Suacito, and supported by the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, led by CIO/GAD Focal Person Mendry-Ann Lim.
The dialogue brought together Isabeleño women from various faiths, fostering meaningful conversations and shared understanding on the role and rights of women across different religious perspectives.
From the Christian perspective, Sr. Emma Delgado of the Prelature of Isabela City emphasized that “Scripture also highlights the social mission of women,” underscoring their active role in service and community life. Representing the Alliance Evangelical Church, Constancia Serguino shared that “Women who are close to God are also close to one another,” highlighting the importance of faith in strengthening unity among women.
From the Islamic perspective, Sitti Rahma Sahibil, an ALIVE teacher and Islamic religious leader, affirmed that “In Islam, women are honored members of society. Islamic teachings and history show that women can lead, teach, serve the community, and contribute to the development of society.” Barbette Jane Baclay of the Seventh-day Adventist Church also emphasized that “Men and women have equal spiritual worth and share the same human dignity.” Meanwhile, Fely Solomon of the Episcopal Church spoke on women’s responsibilities, noting that “A wife is a partner who shares in stewardship over creation,” highlighting the concept of partnership and shared responsibility.
The open forum and discussion were facilitated by Margarita Auxtero, Project Development Officer of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, allowing participants to actively engage and exchange insights.
Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman served as the panel reactor, underscoring the importance of interfaith dialogue in fostering unity and respect among communities. She highlighted that women, from historical times to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, have always played vital roles as leaders, teachers, and contributors to society. The Mayor encouraged women to continue stepping into leadership and actively driving positive change in their communities, while also sharing historical insights on Prophet Muhammad’s teachings that recognized and upheld the rights, dignity, and important roles of women in society.
