The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and through the City Local Madrasah Development Office (CLMDO) headed by Dr. Nujum Datu Indal, conducted a Training of Trainers for ALIVE/ISAL teachers on the Comprehensive Gender and Health Education for Youth (CGHEY) Module from December 17 to 19.
The three-day training was facilitated by resource speakers from the Commission on Population and Development IX (CPD IX), led by Regional Director EnP Leticia Dolores II Abao.
The activity aimed to enhance the capacity of ALIVE/ISAL teachers to effectively deliver the CGHEY Module using a pedagogical approach that is sensitive, participatory, and firmly grounded in Islamic values. Specifically, it sought to strengthen teachers’ confidence and practical skills in facilitating respectful, age-appropriate, and non-judgmental classroom discussions on gender and health, including strategies for addressing difficult questions. Participants were also guided in developing concrete individual action plans for the immediate integration and implementation of the module in their respective schools or madaris.
On Day 1, Fariha Nooh, Interim Technical Head of CPD BARMM, discussed CGHEY Modules 1 and 2, focusing on the integration of Islamic values. Safana Baguilan, Technical Staff, facilitated sessions on CGHEY Modules 3 and 4. On Day 3, Sittie Raiza Brahim, also a Technical Staff member, presented CGHEY Module 5.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in interactive workshops and teaching demonstrations designed to strengthen both their theoretical understanding and practical application of the module.
Through initiatives such as this, the city continues to empower educators as key partners in nurturing informed, values-driven, and resilient learners—ensuring that gender and health education is delivered in a manner that is culturally appropriate, faith-sensitive, and responsive to the needs of the community.
