The Bangsa Sama Solidarity Council, supported by the City Government of Isabela under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, soft launched Kabbun Pandoga December 5 at Barangay Lukbuton. The first in the city, it is a showcase of tradition and sustainability, offering experiential homestay, organic farming and fisheries post harvest method that combines indigenous knowledge and modern technology.
The event brought together residents, elders, and officials in a meaningful thanksgiving gathering, with Senator Robinhood Padilla and Mr. Rommel Padilla gracing the occasion as the special guest, underscoring the cultural importance of the community’s pag duaa salamat tradition.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from Bangsa Sama Solidarity Council President Ikram Amain, who emphasized unity, cultural preservation, and the story behind the creation of the Kabbun Pandoga. His message highlighted the need to revive and honor practices that reflect the identity and depth of the Sama and Tausug peoples.
Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman and Mayor Turabin-Hataman followed with messages of support, both underscoring the significance of honoring indigenous knowledge and practices as foundations for community harmony and sustainable development. Mayor Turabin-Hataman expressed gratitude for the launching of the Kabbun Pandoga and reflected on how the structure embodies the richness of local cultural identity. She noted that the community’s heritage represents wisdom, sensitivity, and interconnectedness—qualities inherited from ancestors that continue to guide how people understand the world.
Senator Robinhood Padilla, inspired attendees with a message recognizing the community’s efforts to protect its heritage while actively pursuing peace and development. He commended the Bangsa Sama Solidarity Council and the City Government of Isabela for creating a space where tradition, faith, and communal harmony intersect.
Messages of support were also delivered by Department of Agriculture IX Regional Focal Person Janice Legaspi and Amanah Islamic Bank Manager Sherry Grace Aspi, both reaffirming their commitment to programs that uplift and sustain the people of Malamawi.
The celebration was attended by notable officials, including Basilan District 1 Board Members Ahmed Ibn Djaliv Hataman and Atty. Faigdar Jaafar, City IPMR Jamalul Habibun, BLGU Lukbuton officials led by Punong Barangay Sarahaida Tiplani, IPS Head Panglima Abdurrahman Hussin, Barangay Lukbuton IPMR Jamar Palluh, former City IPMR Mary May Julhari, former Bangsamoro Transition Authority Commissioner Abdullah Camlian, and representatives from Synergy International.
