The City Government of Isabela, through the City Health Office, successfully conducted an orientation for the City and Barangay Blood Councils as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen local blood services and ensure a reliable and voluntary blood supply for the community. The city’s Blood Program is implemented under the Gender and Development (GAD) initiative, reflecting its commitment to equitable and gender-responsive health services.
Medical Blood Program Coordinator Dr. Nujum Datu Indal, delivered the welcome message and highlighted the importance of coordinated blood programs at the barangay and city levels.
Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, who serves as Chairperson of the City Blood Council, delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the city government’s continued commitment to promoting voluntary blood donation and ensuring accessible blood services for all Isabeleños. She underscored the critical role of barangay councils in mobilizing communities and sustaining safe blood supply initiatives.
HEPO Bernardita Hontucan presented the rationale and objectives of the orientation, focusing on strengthening donor recruitment, community mobilization, and proper coordination of blood-related activities. This was followed by a presentation on City Ordinance No. 10-323 by Blood Program Coordinator Chrizan Mijares, outlining the legal framework supporting the local blood program.
One of the highlights of the activity was the awarding of certificates of recognition to the top-performing barangays and partner organizations for their contributions to the city’s blood program. The orientation also included a session on donor recruitment and mobilization, an open forum for questions and clarifications, and a collective pledge of support by both the City and Barangay Blood Councils.
