The Sakayan-Kaalaman Reading Program reached its 19th session on November 19, the last reading session before learners move on to their much-awaited 20th session: Graduation Day.
This final learning day felt especially meaningful. Teachers and mentors gathered not just to teach, but to reflect on each learner’s progress throughout the program. During the final assessment, they carefully evaluated each child’s reading performance, and many were genuinely proud to witness the significant improvements achieved over the past weeks.
The PNP–Isabela City Police Station also joined the session, sharing important lessons on self-protection and children’s rights. Their presence added depth to the day’s activities, helping young learners become more aware, informed, and empowered.
Councilor Jeromy Casas and Councilor Benjo Abubakar extended their support by sponsoring snacks for the participants—a thoughtful gesture that highlighted their commitment, even in their absence.
Guided by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman’s strong advocacy for children’s education and welfare, the Sakayan-Kaalaman Reading Program 3.0—implemented through the City Information Office and the Local Youth Development Office—was designed for Grades 2 to 6 learners. The program runs twice weekly for a total of 20 sessions, with each meeting consisting of one hour of instruction followed by two hours of focused reading practice.
Through the steady commitment of teachers, volunteers, and partner offices, the program continues to create a meaningful impact at Kaumpurnah Elementary School. Learners have grown more confident and capable readers, supported as well by the HAPIsabela Mobile Library, which regularly brings books and educational materials to enrich their learning experience.
