BIOs PROMOTE CIVIL AWARENESS IN 17TH SAKAYAN-KAALAMAN SESSION

The 17th session of the Sakayan-Kaalaman Reading Program 3.0 was held on November 12 at Kaumpurnah Elementary School, engaging enthusiastic learners from Grades 2 to 6.
In collaboration with the City Information Office (CIO), Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), and the Barangay Information Officers Network (BION)—headed by BION focal person Ms. Sara Angging—the session featured an interactive discussion introducing BION, the roles of Barangay Information Officers (BIOs), and their vital responsibilities within the community. Participants were also introduced to the 45 barangays, fostering civic awareness among the young learners.
An initiative of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, the program continues to strengthen the reading skills of Isabeleño children through biweekly sessions designed to address literacy gaps within the community.
Held every Tuesday and Wednesday, each session includes one hour of instruction led by partner organizations, followed by two hours of reading-focused activities. Over the course of 20 sessions, mentors from the Youth Space Mentoring Program (YSMP) have guided learners according to their reading levels, promoting literacy, health awareness, and holistic development in alignment with the city’s educational goals.
Additionally, learners participated in a fun and engaging activity where each grade level was tasked with reading and spelling the names of the 45 barangays, enhancing both their literacy and local knowledge.
The session was further enriched by the presence of the HAPIsabela Mobile Library, which continues to bring the joy of reading as well as opportunities for environmental awareness, personal growth, and holistic learning development among Isabeleño youth.
