ISABELA CITY MAKES HISTORY AS THE FIRST RABIES-FREE CITY IN REGION

The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, proudly celebrates its official declaration as a Rabies-Free City by the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office IX (DA-RFO IX) — a remarkable milestone that reaffirms the city’s strong commitment to public health, safety, and animal welfare.
Mayor Turabin-Hataman personally received the Plaque of Recognition on behalf of the City Government during the awarding ceremony held on November 6 in Zamboanga City. She was joined by City Veterinarian Dr. Erwin Jalao and City Health Office Anti-Rabies Program Coordinator Bernardita Hontucan. The event gathered officials and representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, and various local government units across the region.
This recognition highlights Isabela City’s sustained and comprehensive implementation of rabies prevention and control programs, made possible through the collective efforts of the City Veterinary Office, City Health Office, and community stakeholders. The city’s proactive initiatives—such as mass vaccination drives, responsible pet ownership advocacy, and information campaigns—have all contributed to the successful elimination of rabies within the locality.
The City Government of Isabela remains steadfast in maintaining its rabies-free status and in advancing programs that promote animal health, community awareness, and responsible citizenship—all in pursuit of a safe, healthy, and compassionate Isabela City.
