GOVERNOR ANN HOFER VISITS ISABELA CITY FOR THE 4TH BWEL CONVENTION

Arriving in Isabela City early morning of October 14, Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Ann K. Hofer was warmly welcomed by Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman and Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman at Fuego Fuego Basilan. Before proceeding to the main program, Governor Hofer made a brief stop at the soon-to-open Isabela City Museum, currently being curated by renowned cultural expert Ms. Marian Pastor Roces, the same visionary behind the Zamboanga Sibugay Museum.
This year’s 4th Basilan Women Executives and Legislators’ (BWEL) Convention brought together a powerhouse lineup of women leaders and advocates from across Basilan and neighboring provinces. Among them, Governor Hofer stood out as one of the most distinguished keynote speakers.
In her inspiring talk on “Women Leading with Grit and Grace,” Governor Hofer shared her own journey in building the province of Zamboanga Sibugay—from overcoming challenges as its first woman chief executive to championing inclusive, ethical, and compassionate governance. Her message resonated deeply with participants, reminding them that true leadership is not defined by power or position, but by courage, perseverance, and purpose.
Following the convention, Governor Hofer explored Isabela City’s cultural and historical treasures, immersing herself in the stories that shape its identity. She visited Lumah Yakan, a cultural sanctuary that celebrates the artistry of Yakan weavers whose intricate handwoven textiles symbolize strength and tradition. She also visited the Sta. Isabel de Portugal Cathedral, one of the city’s most cherished landmarks — a living testament to Isabela’s enduring faith and heritage.
Governor Hofer’s visit not only underscored her solidarity with Basilan’s women leaders but also reflected the spirit of unity, hospitality, and cultural pride that defines HAPIsabela — a city that continues to weave progress with culture, compassion, and purpose.
