As part of the National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month celebration, the City Government of Isabela, led by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and Senator Robinhood Padilla, formally turned over a new multipurpose building to the Isabela Island District Cluster II – Badjao Floating Integrated School (BFIS) and the community of Barangay Tampalan on October 6, marking another milestone in improving access to safe and functional infrastructure for learners and residents.
The facility will serve as a vital hub for education, community gatherings, and socio-cultural activities. For the Badjao Floating Integrated School, it provides an additional venue to support learning and school functions, while for Barangay Tampalan, it creates a shared space that will enhance community programs and services.
In her message, Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Senator Robinhood Padilla and national government partners for prioritizing projects that address the needs of coastal and Indigenous communities. She emphasized that the facility represents not only infrastructure development but also the empowerment of marginalized groups such as the Badjao.
Senator Robinhood Padilla highlighted the importance of empowering marginalized communities like the Bajaus by providing inclusive and sustainable infrastructure. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen education, cultural identity, and community resilience.
The turnover ceremony, held at the BFIS Multipurpose Hall, brought together local officials, school leaders, teachers, parents, students, and residents, reflecting a strong spirit of unity and cooperation.
Adding vibrance to the celebration, fifteen boats participated in the Fluvial Parade, showcasing colorful and creative designs that reflected the city’s maritime heritage. The Top 3 Best Boat Designs were later announced, recognizing entries that stood out for their originality, visual impact, and craftsmanship.
