LGU-ISABELA CITY INKS MOA WITH DOST-PHIVOLCS ON EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS

Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, together with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), joined the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing of the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) during the 2025 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) and HANDA Pilipinas: Innovations in Climate and Disaster Resilience Nationwide Exposition (Mindanao Leg) held on September 24 in Zamboanga City.
Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology IX (DOST-IX) in collaboration with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the event carried the theme “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities.” It showcased innovations in climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development.
The MOA signing for REDAS served as one of the highlights of the exposition, strengthening LGUs’ capacity to assess earthquake impacts and enhance disaster preparedness. The participation of Mayor Turabin-Hataman and the CDRRMO reaffirmed Isabela City’s commitment to adopting science-based tools and technologies to safeguard communities.
As part of the RSTW activities, DOST also hosted a Mayor’s Night on September 22, 2025, recognizing the invaluable contributions and partnerships of local leaders in advancing science, innovation, and resilience initiatives across Mindanao. (Contributed Report)
