RITO DE MUDADA DEL IMAGEN DE STA. ISABEL DE PORTUGAL

Held at the Cathedral of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, the traditional Mudada or changing of vestments of the revered image of Sta. Isabel was solemnly presided over by Rev. Fr. Joselito Delos Reyes, July 07, marking the eve of the 175th Patronal Fiesta of the Cathedral Parish of Sta. Isabel de Portugal.
This year’s celebration carries the theme: “175 Years of God’s Faithfulness through Santa Isabel: Hope Amidst Challenges.” The new fiesta garb worn by the image was sponsored by former Basilan State College professor Cielito Espina.
Following the Mudada were the Salutacion, Veneracion, and the final Novena, each act of devotion of Isabela City’s Catholic community in spiritual preparation for the feast day. The image was then carried on the city’s major thoroughfares during the Grand Procession.
In support of this deeply rooted cultural and religious tradition, the City Government of Isabela, under Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and through the City Tourism Office, mounted various activities under Fiesta Alegria de Isabela 2025. These initiatives reflect the LGU’s commitment to building a “culturally diverse and proud” city for all Isabeleños.
This local observance is recognized by Republic Act No. 12220, authored by then Basilan Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman, which declares July 08 of every year as a Special Working Holiday in Isabela City in honor of Sta. Isabel de Portugal, celebrated as Fiesta Alegria de Isabela. (Words by M. Guerrero, CIO/Photos by G. Salvador of G-Shots Photography)
